Ideas for changing from a Macbook Pro 2020
Hey there, I'm Ryan. I'm looking for a laptop suggestion. I've been using the top-tier setup of the MacBook Pro 2020 M1, and it's running smoothly except for one major issue that's impacting my work. Mostly I'm in marketing and sales automation—similar to this example. I use a lot of apps and software, many of which don't work well with the new Apple M1 chip. A lot still lack native support for this processor. As an Apple enthusiast, I'm really considering switching to Windows or other processor-based laptops. Please be kind, I have no prior knowledge about specifications.
What are your preferences?
1. Budget: $2k–$4k
2. Notebook size: 13"-16 inches
3. Screen resolution: Highest available
4. Do you need a portable or desktop model? My current Mac will be the desktop, so I'd really appreciate something portable.
5. Battery life: Need enough power to last a full day without charging, handling moderate to heavy use.
6. Gaming: If yes, let me know which games and settings you prefer (Low, Medium, High).
7. Other tasks: Primarily app integrations and software automation—occasionally I do photo/video editing too.
8. Storage: 1 TB to 2 TB would be ideal.
9. Preferred retailers: If you have any, please share their links—I'm not familiar with specific sites.
10. Desired lifespan: 3–4 years, with some flexibility.
11. Optical drive: DVD ROM/Writer or Bluray ROM/Writer? I'm not sure what these are.
12. Brand preferences and dislikes: Any brands you favor or avoid, along with reasons.
13. Country of residence: Let me know if you need it.
14. Any other details you think are important?
Consider getting a 16-inch Intel MacBook Pro—you probably don’t need to push it too far.
They are still being produced despite previous plans to discontinue them.
