Ideas for a fresh gaming laptop?
Ideas for a fresh gaming laptop?
Hi everyone,
I hope everything is going well with you all.
I’m thinking about purchasing a new gaming laptop. While I’m not a dedicated gamer, I plan to record, edit, and render gaming videos for online sharing. My budget is $1000, and I’m based in India. I’ve noted some websites where I can buy one. I’d like a display with 144Hz, at least a 1TB HDD (or SSD), and an RTX series GPU.
Please recommend some options. Thank you ahead of time.
Purpose: Gaming – aiming to play most new games smoothly (60fps or higher), do video editing and rendering, stream content.
Budget: $1000
Location: India

Hello Moses,
Even with $1,000 you'd typically have a wide selection of laptops, your specific needs—like requiring an RTX GPU and the ability to run most new games at 60FPS—significantly narrow down your options. The fact that you plan to purchase through platforms such as Flipkart or Amazon IN adds another layer of complexity.
Assuming $1,000 is approximately
₹75,000 on Flipkart for the MSI model:
https://www.flipkart.com/msi-gf63-t...CO...P8B.SEARCH&ppt=browse&ppn=browse
Pros: The screen refresh rate is 144 Hz and it uses an RTX series GPU. Cons: The SSD offers only 512GB, and the 3050 card provides just 4GB of VRAM. This means you'll get a decent display and storage speed, but serious gaming won't be possible with such limited resources.
If you can adjust your budget—though I strongly advise it—to around ₹1,10,000 or less—and consider compromising on the CPU or GPU brand, Flipkart would be happy to offer this model:
https://www.flipkart.com/msi-alpha-...CO...VFT.SEARCH&ppt=browse&ppn=browse
Pros: It meets all key requirements, including 8GB of VRAM, an 1TB SSD, and a 144Hz display. Cons: It doesn't come with an RTX card, and you'd need to spend nearly ₹2,00,000 for one.
The Amazon IN option usually has gaming laptops with only 4GB of VRAM (matching your budget) or prices starting at ₹1,20,000 and higher.
I'll leave you with that decision.

Hello GreyCatz,
Thank you for your suggestion and hard work.
Yes, increasing investment to 6 or 8GB of VRAM would be sensible. I’m okay with GTX models as long as they’re future-proof (at least 3-4 years) and not limited to 4GB. Of course, future games will demand more powerful systems.
I also have a question about your gaming laptop—what are its performance and cooling characteristics? Since you haven’t used one before, I’d like to know more.
