The claim that Ryzen 5 can only handle 3200Mhz is incorrect. Running at 3600Mhz is ideal, and maintaining a 1:1:1 ratio works best with Ryzen. If you hit 3600Mhz, you can push the clock speed to around 1800Mhz. The real limitation comes from the motherboard and BIOS, not the RAM itself. There’s a helpful video explaining RAM basics—most people now achieve around 2000Mhz. Make sure your motherboard’s BIOS supports higher speeds, especially with the new AGESA updates. ASUS recently released a new BIOS for the X570 Strix Gaming-E, which is now available for many boards. I’m currently using it and gaming with a 5600X at nearly 5Ghz using PBO2, which is impressive!

I notice the variation but still get the visuals and code to work. It really comes down to usage patterns, timing, cooling, and the specific RAM sticks you have. Some RAM performs well while others struggle. When your build time shortens because it relies more on CPU and RAM performance, you start to appreciate it. Also, factors like write speeds to storage make a noticeable difference.

I'm evaluating the Ryzen 5 5600X with G.Skill Tident Z Neo 32 GB DDR4 32GB, either at 3200Mhz or 3600Mhz (two 16GB modules). On Amd.com the specs mention system memory up to 3200Mhz, so anything above that should be fine. I discovered this the hard way on my son's build—the Corsair Vengeance 3200Mhz RGB PRO was quite sensitive to the motherboard and only functioned at 2333Mhz, which appeared on the QVL tick list. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
