I recently installed a USB PCIe 1x card to give my desktop more USB-C options. It also includes two internal USB 3.0 ports (not headers). Here are some ideas for using USB ports inside your PC: plugging in a USB thumb drive with Windows installers or Nanite, making it read-only for safe formatting, or using it as a ReadyBoost storage. Other possibilities include switching to another operating system, connecting a wireless USB mouse or keyboard dongle, and exploring unique applications. Any other suggestions?

OS alternatives could be interesting, like a compact Linux version. You probably shouldn’t permanently set up a Windows copy there, since it’s better to get the newest release first.

USB connectors are available, though a genuine port is needed. The gadgets I’ve seen typically require a USB2 connector.
