You can still use your existing 16GB DDR4 RAM with the Ryzen 5 5600G, but ensure it matches or exceeds the required frequency. The 5600G supports up to 3.4 GHz, so your 2666mHz kit should work fine. No need to buy another memory unless you plan to upgrade further.

Use only the available RAM. If the APU isn’t sufficient, think about upgrading to a faster setup.

Consider setting it to 2833 or 3000, and reset CMOS if it doesn’t power up

For the Ryzen 5 5600G you require 4400mhz dual-channel RAM to achieve optimal performance. Having fewer RAM modules isn't an issue, but if you plan to add more, upgrading is necessary. The G.Skill Trident Z Royal Series is an excellent option for this setup.

Agreed - Stay away from Corsair RAM, esp the Vengeance series with a Ryzen setup because for some reason these sticks and Ryzen don't play well together sometimes. More threads that you can count about it with that being the issue, if you go with the above suggestion for G. Skill sticks if buying a new set you'll be fine, however what you have will probrably be OK too.

What is your use case and current hardware? Why do you want to upgrade to the 5600G in particular? I would seriously question that purchase. You're looking at spending another $150 on the RAM on top of $180 on the CPU for $330 in total - assuming US pricing. The OP could get an RX 6600 for potentially less than that price, which may work out way better depending on the current CPU and use case. If the OP has a Ryzen 5 1600, for example, that paired with an RX 6600 will perform unbelievably better for gaming. Unless the OP mainly does CPU heavy tasks that are also memory sensitive, or is on an incredibly slow CPU, like an old A-series APU or Athlon 200GE, I'm not convinced going all-in on fast memory is a wise investment. Also, we don't know what the motherboard is, and plenty of AMD boards don't even support memory that fast. And finally, a DDR4-3600 CL18 kit can be had for less than half the price, and will only perform marginally worse.

You meant to specify that G. Skill was intended only for that particular use case, not for the rated speed of those sticks. A 3600-rated set would work fine with G. Skill, as anything above 3600 isn't assured for Ryzen. You can still choose CL16-rated sticks, though that might not provide enough RAM per stick depending on your needs.

I believed the Ryzen 5 5600G supports frequencies as high as 3200MHz according to AMD's specifications.

I use an Asrock b450 Steel Legend with a Ryzen 5 2600 processor. My system includes an Asus Rog Strix RX570, running at 2666MHz, 16GB of RAM, and a 500GB HP M.2 SSD.

I typically run my gaming setup for Minecraft Fall Guys, American Truck Simulator, and occasionally handle work tasks using a work VM for file transfers.
