I discovered this in a box of random computer parts my boss gave me. I think it functions and was just discontinued when they switched to a new board or CPU. I haven’t tested it myself. If it works, what do you think its value is? It’s currently at my parent’s house in Kansas, and I’m unsure if it’s worth shipping to California. I don’t know what the board is, but both CPUs appear to be i7-3970X models based on the photos. Ignore the packaging. The board could be an ASUS dual socket Z9PE-D8 WS motherboard, though I haven’t connected it yet and don’t know if it works. Based on eBay listings, it might be worth around $500, but that’s just a guess. I’m not sure what I’m looking at.
These multi-socket CPUs are Xeons, typically operating at lower frequencies. They make decent gaming PCs, though they don’t reach top-tier performance.
Offer it for sale, it’s a waste of time. Just sell it, I think someone would be interested in it as a piece for their collection. There are plenty of people with no common sense today, and they have the money to buy it.
the static bag only guards against sparks when you remove or place it in the box, it doesn’t shield from all electrical risks. If you need to sell cpus separately, the motherboard might not be worth testing. I’d consider lowering the price to around 120 dollars for the i7s, and adjust the board cost accordingly. Let’s see how that plays out.
