Hey everyone. As mentioned in the title, when I hover over icons their images are replaced with stretched, blurry versions or solid flat colors (often black or pink). This also affects the scrollbar and some dialogue windows. The problem has been happening for a few days now, and I've tried everything I could. The affected software includes Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and Razer Synapse. So far, it doesn't seem to have spread to other parts of my computer, which is good news. I've updated all drivers on my PC, including the Razer Synapse and the Nvidia GPU driver (my GPU is a GTX 1060 with 6GB). I also uninstalled and reinstalled the problematic software, restarted my computer multiple times, and ran a Windows troubleshooter. Still nothing. If anyone has any ideas about what might be causing this issue, it would be really helpful. Thanks in advance.

Try a clean boot and observe if it resolves the issue—follow the instructions carefully. Ensure no Microsoft services are disabled or Windows won’t load properly. If it works, it likely points to a startup program. You may need to restart the stopped programs to identify the culprit. It could be a conflict between applications. What is the purpose of Synapse?

Thank you for your prompt reply! I use Synapse exclusively for my Blackwidow keyboard. Because I'm unfamiliar with the topic, I assumed a clean boot would clear all my files. I'll proceed with running the tests. Thank you very much again! 🙏

clean boot simply halts programs from starting at launch, leaving them still present on the system. they don’t delete them, just prevent automatic execution when you begin using the PC. it’s straightforward to switch back to the usual setup. this method is non-destructive—it merely pauses their operation.

a clean install wipes all files, so I wouldn’t proceed without trying other options first. it wasn’t on my initial priorities either.

they’re different approaches.

Signed up just to express gratitude for finding a relevant thread online that explained this problem, and to possibly improve its visibility in Google rankings for others searching for solutions. (It took me all day)

On my end, it appears the issue was linked to the ASUS Armory Crate, which came with my ROG Strix X570-F and 6800XT. It might have been related to the software or hardware that came with it. I encountered the problem in Razer Synapse, 1Password, and even within SteamVR settings, such as the icon glitching on the dashboard overlay buttons.

I'm really thankful this discussion was useful! I plan to look into Armory Crate since I'm still facing problems. Do you need to delete the program or just stop it from starting automatically?

I've carried out further testing by turning some services back on individually.
The faulty service was "Nahimic service" – Google indicates this is linked to Realtek audio drivers, Sound Studio, or Sound Radar. The issue reappeared when I started with it enabled and disappeared when disabled.
I don’t know how this would impact the built-in sound, since I use an external DAC.
After removing the related programs, the service stayed in the list but is now disabled and no longer affects my experience – so I’m confident the problem is resolved for me.
Edit: This problem appears to be specific to scalable graphics in .NET Core apps. There are relevant discussion threads on the dotnet/wpf GitHub, including details about memory hooks in Nahimic.

This situation makes perfect sense because I had to reinstall my audio drivers and Asus software just a few days prior to this issue. The only location I found for Nahimic Service was in the task manager under the services tab. Is that the place I should disable it?

It is located in the System Configuration/msconfig panel as described in the clean boot steps mentioned earlier by Colif.
