Just starting out with overclocking and using my i9 stock model. Recently diving in, I've been testing 9900K with 5GHz, AVX disabled, 45 cache, and 1.27V temps—performance looks decent and it stays cool. On Prime95, the hottest core hits 86°C while the coolest is 67°C. I'm thinking about increasing voltage and boosting thermals to push cache performance up to 47, but I haven't managed that with 1.28V. Not sure if the extra heat is worth it compared to the gains. My motherboard is a Rog Strix ASUS Z390F.
5GHz 1.27V CPU performs well without obvious changes. Running a 9900K at high temps in Prime95 isn't harmful, but for testing, aim for 5.1GHz core with 4.7GHz cache and 1.36-1.4V if cooling is possible.
I haven't even tested 5.1GHz yet, but when I used auto settings it would boost voltages to 1.35-1.37 and keep the device running at around 90-95°C on 5GHz with prime95. I might want to check how much voltage is needed for 5.1GHz and see if caching works better, but if it's too heavy I worry I'm adding too much power just to get a little more speed. Right now I'm happy with my current settings, but I'm wondering if it makes sense to push a bit more performance at the cost of higher temps, especially since summer is heating up my room.
