I wouldn't point to your i5 either. You're running a 4690k/GTX970 and achieving over 90 FPS in the city. You should see higher FPS indoors compared to outdoors. What are your current settings? Yours uses FXAA enabled, MSAA disabled, everything set to max except grass on High, Advanced Settings turned off except for high detail streaming while flying. I don't experience drops below 60 FPS and usually keep Vsync active; you seem to have more issues when it's off.
Do you possess the identical setup as their testing environment? Are you executing precisely the same repeated gameplay pattern a specific number of times to achieve consistency? Grasping the distinction between benchmarks and actual performance is just as crucial.
Let those with i5s start criticizing i7s just because of the processor alone. Sure, it might not be a game-changer, but I won’t waste money on something unnecessary. I’ll go for what I need, and that’s an i7.
I experience full CPU utilization in GTA V, not background processes. The game runs mainly on the CPU while being GPU-heavy outside the city because of grass, trees, etc. My settings are set to high/very high, but all related adjustments affect the GPU. In the city my GPU usage ranges from 50-80%, while the CPU stays at 100%. Advanced options are off, so they aren’t the problem. To be honest, I haven’t thoroughly checked their tests, so I retract my previous comments. I shouldn’t have made accusations without solid evidence. Although Techspot tested CPUs at 1600p—which is unusual for a GPU-bound game—I understand why an i5 behaves like a 5960X. Since I mentioned i5 concerns, it seems you were referring to me. I don’t dislike i7’s, but I emphasized GTA V needs an i7 because it stutters on i5 at full load.
My i5 3230M has Hyper-Threading too limited the Clevo BIOS is somewhat restricted...even with a custom BIOS, I can't turn off HT. I haven't really seen any bad effects in games, but I did see a drop in performance on my i7 950 desktop during certain titles.
The reason your GPU usage spikes to 100% depends on the environment and workload. In areas with lots of grass, the game runs at full capacity, while in cities with sparse grass, it uses less power. This variation is explained in Gamersnexus' guide, which details how different settings affect performance across different landscapes.
