volkgren :
I don't think the issue is related to the motherboard's strength. Are you using Prime95 v26.6? Other versions use AVX instructions and might not give accurate results. I think I was, but I couldn't locate a download site for it. I found a link on a YouTuber, which could be an older version.

I intend to visit the micro center again and install a Z370 Prime A Mobo, provided you both agree it's suitable for overclocking this CPU.

Also what would be a suitable benchmark and stress test for this CPU when OC'ed? I've been using RealBench for Stress and Bench tests as well as Prime95, Cinebench, but I'm uncertain about the best results as I increase core speed.

These are the procedures to follow. Prime95 is usually the initial test, then realbench comes next. These stress tests aim to evaluate temperature and stability. You should perform them for 4-8 hours to check if your system maintains a stable overclock.
I find it hard to accept that your CPU is being downclocked during a stress test and believe HWinfo might be misleading you.
If you choose to replace the motherboard, I suggest opting for the Z390 model since they are newer and some offer better VRM compared to the Z370.

Thanks a lot, I plan to upgrade to a newer Z390 and restart the overclocking process. I’ll keep sharing updates as I gather more information!

You'll have to reinstall Windows during the motherboard replacement process.
