I7 9700 reaches maximum temperature of 100°C
Hi, I switched from an i5 8400 to an i7 9700, which cost only $50 more. The idle temperature now sits around 31°C. After updating drivers and restarting, I tried a game. When Warframe started, the fans reached 100% and the CPU temperature jumped from 95°C to 100°C. Once the game loaded, it dropped to 60-75°C but then spikes back up to 100°C. My old CPU never had this issue. I was never able to hear the fans on my new setup. My motherboard is an Asus H310m Gaming Plus with the latest BIOS, and I use a thermalright macho rev 120 rev. A noctua ventilator Nf S12 is installed. What might cause these temperature spikes? Should I consider returning the CPU? Thank you!
I put the cooler in place and used the same paste technique as before.
Still take off the cooler and look at the thermal paste spread. I'm 90% sure it's a bad mount. It happens. Doing that will confirm or deny my theory.
If it isn't that, what might be the issue? I only had thermal paste left for one time.
It might be overloading the system, but I’m not sure. This behavior is definitely typical of a faulty mount.
