Sure, this seems like an unusual comparison. Even with the i7 8700K overclocked, is it less powerful than the i3 12100? The benchmark shows it's weaker (probably not a big deal), though it felt surprising since the newer 12th-gen cores are expected to outperform older ones.

The 8700K matches the performance of the 10400f and Ryzen 5 3600X. By current benchmarks, these processors are relatively weaker. I’d prefer the 8700K over the 12100f mainly for having two more cores, but I’d choose a 5600X or 12400F instead every day.

The choice involves balancing trade-offs, and I wouldn't upgrade to 12100 as it feels like a lower-tier option. Options like 12400 or 13400 represent a substantial improvement over 8700K.
