The 8700K is the sole i7 model in Intel's history that lacks HT support.

I was facing the same situation. I had the 8700k. It would have been nice if I had the 9700 instead. After all these exchanges and the closeness involved, I thought I should have taken the 9900k.

Thanks for the assistance, I’ll just play. Every answer is fine. I intend to aim for a 5GHz if possible and keep temperatures under control. If I hit 8700k, I’ll be ready to upgrade. I’ll wait until tomorrow anyway because Bb won’t match prices on holidays.

I’d follow Mick Naughty’s suggestion and purchase the i9-9900K, or even the i9-9900KS, if you’re able to afford it.

If I had to choose, I’d opt for AMD and a Ryzen 9 3900X for $500. I’ll keep the i7 for now.

I own the 8700k, yet the 9700k appears more worthwhile. 8 true cores with no toothpaste in between the IHS and die makes it simpler to overclock in my case.
