i7 8700K overclocking
You really don't get much from overclocking. Especially with CPUs like the 8700k. It has a single core turbo of 4.7ghz and most of today's games run best on high single core performance. So overclocking the 8700k to 4.7 (which is a 1ghz overclock for all cores) wont have much of an impact on most games. Moving it up to 5ghz will net some performance, but not much. Even less if you are gaming at 1440p or 4k.
Overclocking is best for older CPUs that are beginning to show their age. It is a good way to eek out a little extra performance when it actually matters.
Overclocking your GPU will have a bigger impact, but most card now come overclocked from the factory and there is not that much more performance to be had.
Not much needed. This CPU is already quite powerful, and the overclocking has brought it down to around 5 fps or less in most games.

If you're just upgrading for games, wait until the 12xx generation of Nvidia and 2020 titles that might use more of that kind of CPU.

Hi,
What impact does overclocking an 8700K have while gaming?
The GPU is a GTX 1070.
The effect depends on the game, so it will vary.
Begin with MCE (Multi Core Enhancement). It should run at 4.7 GHz across all cores and that should be sufficient, right?
