I'm unsure which option is best. I plan to use PC just for gaming. I enjoy shooters such as CS:GO and Valorant, so graphics quality isn't a big concern. The prices are: i7 8700K at $110, i7 9700K at $220, and i9 9900K under $300.

The only sensible choice appears to be the 8700K model. Beyond that, switching to a 5600/5700X board would be more cost-effective and still deliver comparable performance.

Have you purchased that motherboard yet? I’m sure you could invest more wisely with the latest components. You might consider a Ryzen 5 5600G paired with a B450M board for $190.

You can purchase an i5 12400 and a basic B660 motherboard for around $250 USD. In gaming, this setup matches the performance of a 9900K. For budget-conscious buyers, the i3 12100 offers great value, and you can upgrade to a H610 board to drop costs below $200. Ultimately, opt for a newer system—high-end CPUs in any socket tend to be too expensive.

This deal only makes sense if you intend to use the Pentium. Otherwise, opting for an AM4 socket would be more advantageous. A 5700X is available for $195, while B450 boards can be found as low as $50 new (though they appear to be limited in stock), and the 5700X outperforms the 9900K. For additional savings, consider the 5600 at $135 and the same board which still beats the 9700K. All prices shown are in the US, though most regions have comparable rates, and used options may offer even lower costs.
