I7-8700K 5GZ upgrading guide Performance boost tips for your processor
You're trying to push your CPU to 5GZ but encountering issues during stress testing. The videos you watched might not match your current BIOS version or settings. Check your motherboard's BIOS for the latest updates, especially related to overclocking and error handling. Look closely at the error codes displayed on Prime95 to identify specific problems—adjusting voltage limits or stability thresholds could help resolve the issues.
What temperatures are you seeing? Consider increasing the vcore slightly if everything is stable. Keep in mind that not every chip supports 5GHz speeds.
1.29v won't complete the task. Expect under 5% of the 8700k budget to handle 5.0Ghz at that voltage. Consider using 1.35v as a beginning point and adjust the LLC settings accordingly for your board.
Right now I'm watching this video just to review everything https://youtu.be/bD1Ze80GpLo
Mr. D understands exactly what he's doing. Follow his instructions carefully.
I tested the board myself, and it came with an EZ 5.0 OC configuration. The voltage is quite high, but it’s easy to adjust if needed. I tried the auto OC setting and exceeded 5.1. After that, I adjusted the multiplier to 50, set voltage manually at 1.32, and left it that way without making further changes. It finally stabilized.
Attempted it but Prime95 crashed, leaving me stuck with default settings for the overclock.
