Hello, welcome to Intel CPUs. I recently purchased an i7 7700k and applied an XMP profile. After running Prime 95 on Blend for around ten minutes, my average CPU temperature was 75 degrees with a Hyper-212 Evo. Is that typical?

if the voltage is too low it's likely to cause a blue screen
try reducing it slightly, 89c should still be within safe limits though not much
experience in real situations matters more than stress tests
temperature readings are more important than just stress testing

Is the temperature excessive? Mostly it stays around 29 degrees during idle, and the majority of the stress test was at 70 degrees.

What version of Prime95 is being used? The 7700K tends to overheat slightly compared to the 6600K under identical conditions.

what is the prime95 version and why is the 7700k getting warm more than expected?

Yeah that's fine. After 26 it gets warmer because of AVX instructions, and 75C works okay. Remember, Prime95 adds extra stress than normal usage does. I don't bother with it myself, though some people believe it's necessary for certain reasons. A better real-world test would be using an ASUS ROG Realbench.

remember prime95 adds extra stress than normal use does
don't worry about using prime95 though, some think it's necessary

it gets hotter after 26 due to avx instructions, but 75c is fine. prime95 adds extra stress than real use does. i don’t need to use it, though some think it’s necessary. a better test would be asus rog realbench. with my i7-7700k, i ran a 4.8ghz stress test at 1.325v for 15 minutes, reached 89c. what should you do next? lower voltage? how does it affect if you reduce it too much for that frequency? will it cause a blue screen or apps slow down?
