I7 7700k help
I’m trying to achieve a 5GHz overclock on my ASUS Maximus iX formula board. I set everything to maximum and adjusted the following settings: DRAM XMP(3200) avx -2, sync all cores, memory mode 2, LLC level 5, cache voltage V 255.50. So far it only boots into Windows when I set the manual voltage to 1.35V. When I run Prime95 (26.6), my PC crashes and I have to shut down the system via the PSU switch. No display appears when I press the power or reset button. Previously, I overclocked to 4.7GHz at 1.29V with LLC level 2, and ran Prime95 for 30 minutes without errors or warnings, with temperatures staying at 80°C under HWM. My chip isn’t being driven and I’m using a NZXT Kraken X52 cooler. I’m not sure what to do next. Any advice would be helpful.
Probably isn't the right choice. It's unclear how to make a comparison because they are very different in terms of generation. I'll wait for a better answer.
They're actually quite similar when you consider how they're presented.
It's not too surprising that you can't reach 5GHz on a 7700k.
I haven't pushed the voltage beyond 1.35 v on manual yet. I don't want to risk damaging my computer. This is my first time working with 1.3v and I'm not an expert. I also want to confirm that the crashes aren't due to a wrong setting in my BIOS. I overclocked before, but this chip and its BIOS are different. It's been a while since I tried overclocking after my last system, which was a Z777M and an i5 3570K.
With the cooling and motherboard in place, up to 1.4v is considered safe. However, if you reach 80°C at 4.7, it's unlikely you'll succeed.
Motherboard is an Asus maximum ix design and the cooler is a NZXT kraken x52
