Hi everyone!
2 days ago I completed my new build.
Full system specifications:
i7 7700k
MSI Z270 Sli Plus
MSI GTX 1070 Gaming Edition
Corsair H80i
Gskill Ripjaws V 8gb 2400mhz
Corsair TX850 v2 PSU
Samsung 850 EVO 250gb
WD Blue 1TB HDD
NZXT S340 White Case
Everything is functioning properly and I’m experiencing excellent game performance. However, I’m puzzled about the clock speed of the i7 7700k. In MSI Command Center, the CPU clock is set to 4.5GHz, but it should be adjusted to the official base speed of 4.2GHz without overclocking. It stays steady whether under load or idle. I’ve turned on XMP to reach the advertised 2400MHz for my RAM. What’s the main factor behind the higher clock speed—XMP or something else?
Here are screenshots of the system status while playing Battlefield 1:

I verified your motherboard specifications and confirmed that the 2400mhz ram speed does not require OC to function properly. XMP is an overclocking profile that pushes your CPU and memory beyond their base speeds, which can only be achieved through manual overclocking—such as reaching 3200Mhz (OC). Your CPU's current speed of 4.5Ghz is the boost or turbo clock, accessible via a BIOS option and used when extra performance is needed. It’s not a cause for concern. Regarding your constant 4.5GHz speed, it’s likely your multiplier is set to its maximum, preventing any drop in performance. Consider disabling XMP and manually setting the RAM speed to 2400Mhz through the BIOS.

Hello... when you stop your games or apps and open the OS desktop, the CPU speed should drop to roughly half its original rate. This behavior is expected. Your CPU also features a "Turbo speed" at 4.5MHz, which can activate this effect.

Hello... when you shut down your games or apps and open your OS desktop, the CPU speed should drop to about half its normal rate, shouldn't it? Yes, it does. Your CPU also features a "Turbo speed" at 4.5MHz, which can activate this reduction.
The Intel Core i7-7700K processor supports up to 4.5GHz and has an XMP overclocking profile that pushes the CPU to higher speeds when needed. This boost is controlled via BIOS settings.
Your CPU speed at 4.5GHz likely comes from a multiplier setting set to its maximum, preventing it from dropping further. You might want to turn off XMP and manually set your RAM speed to 2400Mhz in the BIOS.
It’s not a cause for concern.
Regarding temperatures: idle temps are around 36-40°C, and under load they reach 67-71°C. Since you live in India with an average room temperature of about 38°C, it should be manageable.

Hello... your temperatures are excellent, isn't the air here humid or dry at the moment?
It's just a 33°C increase on your CPU during load and a 2°C rise when idle. Nice build B)

The system sounds like it should slow down when the games or apps are running. On the desktop, the CPU speed should drop to roughly half its normal rate. This behavior is expected because the CPU has a "Turbo speed" at 4.5MHz, which activates under load. The Intel Core i7-7700K model supports up to 4.5GHz and can be overclocked if needed. Your motherboard specs confirm that 2400MHz RAM is fine without OC. Checking the BIOS settings for XMP should disable it, allowing manual setting of 2400MHz. Current temperatures are normal—idle around 36-40°C, load temps 67-71°C. If temperatures rise unexpectedly, the CPU will automatically adjust to 4.2GHz without further action required.
