You're looking at the differences between the i7 5775C and the FCLGA1150. The i7 5775C is a specific AMD processor, while the FCLGA1150 is a motherboard socket type. They serve different purposes—one is a chip, the other is a platform for mounting components. Since your motherboard is a Z97 PC from MSI, compatibility depends on the socket match and system requirements. Double-check the motherboard manual for exact specifications.

It might function, though they tend to be quite expensive.

I looked on eBay and noticed the prices are quite high. Would upgrading to something like an i7 4790k or 4770k be a better choice?

Explore the Xeon E3 1240v3. They resemble i7s but were designed for corporate environments. You can't push their speed beyond limits, yet they're generally more affordable. If you plan to invest in an i7, consider upgrading to a Ryzen instead for better value.

Offer a 4770K, you might secure them near $100

The 5th generation reached its highest performance before bug fixes, though its reliability might be questionable.
