I also bought an i7 4790k with an ASRock Gaming Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDM board and 16 gigabytes of Gskill RAM at 2133. I’m upgrading my rig for Star Citizen and planning an overclock to at least 4.5. Do I need water cooling for that? I currently have an 800-watt power supply with a Corsair heatsink and fan that’s quite large. What do you think?

I also bought an i7 4790k with an ASRock Gaming Fatal1ty Z97 Killer LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDM board and 16 gigabytes of Gskill RAM at 2133 MHz. I'm upgrading and getting ready for Star Citizen. I'm thinking about overclocking to at least 4.5. Do I need water cooling for that? I currently have an 800-watt power supply with a Corsair heatsink and fan that's quite large. What do you think?

Hiho, I suggest lowering the RAM speed to 1600Mhz since overclocking it to 2133 will make the processor even hotter. I believe you should be okay otherwise. Aim for a 1.2V and 4.6Ghz overclock if stable, and keep temperatures at or below 70°C. If that works, try 4.7Ghz and maintain it. What GPU are you using? Which resolution are you planning to use?

I recently purchased a Nvidia 970 4Gig DDR5, and my screen resolution is 1360 x ... (I can't recall the exact number). It's a monitor connected to my PC. I'm considering getting a better display for improved picture quality and resolution.

1080p resolution will be ideal. Adjust your 970 as well and everything should look great.

1080p resolution sounds great. Make sure to overclock your 970 as well, everything should work smoothly. I haven't overclocked a GPU before, is it similar to CPU overclocking? GPU overclocking is handled via software, I suggest using MSI Afterburner. Look through forums to find examples of people who successfully overclocked the 970. From what I understand, it's a solid choice for overclocking.

GPU overclocking provides extra performance, so why not take advantage of it? You don't need to add any voltages; just increase the Core Clock by 10 until it becomes unstable. Then reduce it by 10 and test it for about 8 hours. If it stabilizes, you're ready to use the GPU with that overclock. You might also consider Memory Clock, but it's less effective than Core Clock.

GPU overclocking provides extra performance. I suggest using MSI Afterburner software. Look through forums to find examples of people who have successfully overclocked the 970.
From what I understand, the 970 is a solid overclocker.
Increasing the Core Clock by 10 until it becomes unstable is a good approach. Then reduce it by 10 and test for about eight hours. If it stabilizes, you're ready to use it.
You might also consider adjusting the Memory Clock, but Core Clock is more beneficial.
Thanks for the advice... I'll give it a try...
