So i’m not really aiming to push the clock unless it’s completely secure. I entered Intel's XTU program and ran a benchmark test.
I7 4790k got a score of 877, with a max processor frequency of 4.40ghz and the highest CPU temperature reached was 72°C.
However, when comparing online, there were others achieving much higher scores in the 1000 range with similar or slightly lower frequencies. I have an MSI Z97a gaming 7 motherboard and 16GB DDR3 RAM.
Does anyone know why this might be happening? Also, is it safe to try pushing it further now that I see these results? I don’t really notice any issues affecting my gaming, but I do enjoy playing Arma 3, which apparently loves overclocking.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It is essentially necessary to almost attempt to inflict harm.
While XTU isn't a particularly intimidating synthetic evaluation, it remains a synthetic assessment and thus offers limited insight into stability during actual multitasking in real-world situations. It would be advisable to opt for RoG Real Bench. The synthetic evaluations can help boost your presence on website leaderboards, but if you designed your system to handle applications, an application-focused stress test would be more effective.
There are roughly a dozen metrics that track CPU temperature, with Core Temp per core being the most relevant. HWiNFO is recommended for monitoring... run "sensors only".
The typical average and mean OC on the 4790K model is around 4.7 GHz.
Did you increase the CPU multiplier or cache as well? Doing so could enhance image editing performance, especially if your cache multiplier stays close to the CPU multiplier.
DDR3-1660 or higher is preferred.
Max Vcore according to HWInfo?

Hi, thank you for your message. I haven’t adjusted any settings on my hardware at all, and my RAM isn’t fast enough—it’s around 1330. What is the maximum vcore? Sorry, but I’m still getting familiar with all these terms and they’re confusing me a bit. I only joined the program out of curiosity about how my build would perform. Unless there’s an issue, I’ll leave things as they are. My score was marked 'good,' but if I can improve a bit, I don’t see why I shouldn’t try. Thanks again!
