I7 4790K core temperature variation up to 20 degrees Celsius
Hello, I own an I7 4790K that I overclocked to 4.7Ghz. It has remained stable for a long time, but recently I started using prime95 26.6 and observed a temperature gap of about 20°C between my first core and the eighth core (around 70°C vs lower 50s). I’m using MSI afterburner and plan to test other monitors to confirm consistency. Thank you for checking.

It's an issue with the 4-core CPU, but 10 degrees Celsius is within the acceptable range.
A 10°C variation is quite significant. It would be wise to examine your cooler's mounting and the application of thermal paste. Aim for a temperature gap under 10°C.
It could be a faulty sensor or the IHS has a poor performance behind the scenes. Using 10°C or higher isn't uncommon. As mentioned before, you might want to consider a remount, but it seems there could be issues with the thermal paste under the IHS. You might be eligible for an RMA since the difference between cores is significant. Intel generally handles RMA requests well.
You might want to consider a remount, though I'm uncertain if it will fix the 20c issue. Perhaps you could check if the cooler is tilted or something similar. GC extreme stands out as one of the top TM options. I personally use it but avoid sharing it widely. Just remember the small "glob" method.
