i7-4710HQ has trouble streaming 4K60 or 1440p60 on YouTube.
Hello everyone, the problem appears to be related to hardware limitations in Chrome. There seems to be no native support for the VP9 codec, which could explain the performance issues. Even at 1440p60, the usage is quite high. Newer Intel processors handle these formats efficiently with low power consumption, whereas I’m struggling with 40 and experiencing lag. It might be due to the software handling everything. I’m also unable to use a dedicated GPU for encoding, but that’s specific to Chrome. Any suggestions or solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.
Have you checked if the problem occurs with Firefox or another browser? Chrome consistently utilizes the dedicated GPU for decoding video.
You could adjust the graphics options in Windows and allow Chrome to utilize your specific GPU.
Function doesn't operate on laptops. It consistently chooses CPU and built-in options, regardless of manual settings.
Have you attempted a different browser? Chrome isn't recognized for handling system resources effectively.
In reality, the i-GPU in Haswell chips might be struggling with decoding high resolutions, especially at large scales.
I noticed it seems unclear where the issue lies. My guess is the CPU might be the problem, since the GPU runs smoothly at 4K60 but struggles with VP9 encoding. It could also be related to missing VP9 support. Please let me know if this makes sense or if you have more details.
It seems like you're weighing in on a decision, but there are some unclear points. It looks like you're considering whether the device meets certain requirements, possibly around support and performance. The mention of age and CPU cores might be relevant, but more details would help clarify your concerns. Let me know how you'd like to proceed!
