Hi there, I've been using this old Lenovo y510p laptop for a while now and the build is showing signs of wear. Back in college I used it as a powerful machine, but having a full desktop setup wasn't really practical for me. Now it's mostly just for playing some older games with my girlfriend. Recently, some updates from Nvidia or Microsoft—maybe both—have caused GPU driver issues when running DX11 games. I've tried various fixes, but nothing seems to solve the problem. Since the CPU isn't soldered to the motherboard, I started wondering if a custom-built motherboard exists. ASRock has a model (IMB-180) that looks promising, though 4700MQ isn't listed on their supported list. I'm not sure why, but it seems odd. All the other parts are available from Chinese brands on sites like AliExpress and eBay, but I'm hesitant to trust them fully. I'm considering upgrading to a laptop-to-desktop setup or adding a custom case if it works. Would anyone know more about this? Should I test it out? Also, what's the best power supply for such a system? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

1 no 2 I don't know 3 it's an PCIe x16 port, which means most GPUs should fit

Some laptop chips have been included in desktop builds—Linus likely covered this in a video, possibly sourcing them from China. As long as the CPU matches the chipset’s supported generation and stays within power limits, it should work fine. Good luck! Edit: The 4700MQ offers 16 PCIe lanes, meaning a graphics card should function without issues if the motherboard supports bifurcation, allowing multiple PCIe devices to be used while the CPU can handle 2x8 or even 1x8+2x4 configurations.
