As mentioned before, if you're planning to go retro, consider using an I7 4790 (k) for improved performance.

Assuming you already own an i7-2600K, consider a motherboard featuring a Z77 chipset for enhanced overclocking capabilities. A used Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H model would be suitable. https://forums. https://hothardware.com/reviews/z77-moth...byte-intel The integrated Memory Controller (IMC) on the 2600K is designed to support up to DDR3-1333, but you may achieve higher speeds with DDR3-1600 if your motherboard allows memory overclocking. https://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Core_i7/Intel-Core i7-2600K CM8062300833908.html Memory controller details Number of controllers: 1 Memory channels per controller: 2 Total memory channels: 2 Supported memory types: DDR3-1066, DDR3-1333 Purchase the motherboard first, then verify the manufacturer's Qualified Vendor List for recommended RAM. It's unlikely to be an issue if the RAM isn't listed, but ensure it matches the specifications. Opt for tighter timings for reduced latency.
