Hello everyone, this is my debut here. I’m wondering if there’s anything unusual about my CPU cooler or BIOS configuration. Last summer I assembled my initial PC: a 64-bit Windows 10 Pro system running on a Corsair RME 80 Gold 1000W cooler, an Asus Tuf Gaming Z790-Plus with WiFi, and a Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 50.5 cooling solution. The CPU was an i7-13700k with Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. I installed 16x2 Trident 4 RAM and a 1080p Asus display paired with a 32" Samsung 2K monitor. My BIOS version listed was American Megatrends Inc, 0411, 2022-09-07, in SMBIOS mode with UEFI.

I recall trying to upgrade to DDR5 memory but ended up with the wrong model because the naming convention was unclear. Building this setup felt like a challenge, especially when I encountered overheating issues. During benchmarks, my temperatures consistently reached 99°C, dropping to around 87°C after adjustments at a local shop. Sometimes the temps hit 97°C during intense gameplay, particularly with titles like Furmarks, Helldivers 2, or Battlefield 2042. Even at lower loads, I’ve seen readings climb to 80°C.

I found a video that might help explain these spikes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s43Auv8u...yzTwoCents. I’m still trying to figure out what’s causing these fluctuations. The BIOS settings were set to “Disabled – Enforce All limits.” After the latest update, it now shows my CPU at 120%, which wasn’t the case before. My room temperature is around 19°C, but the CPU stays hotter.

If you need more details, please let me know—I might take some time to respond due to my busy schedule. Thanks!

Good evening, here’s what I discovered for you. Intel and AMD are leveraging the thermal capacity well, and you’ll often see the Intel Core i7-13700K hitting its maximum temperature of 100°C at 100°C ambient when pushed hard. For gaming, temps stay stable around 60-80°C, depending on the game and CPU intensity. Also, using a budget thermal paste can significantly impact performance, which is why I usually opt for artic MX-4.
