Hey, it's tough to hear your friend lost his computer. We're planning to start another mid-tier one. I'm using my old 970 for the CPU and want an Intel 12th gen, which is sadly not available on AMD. I wanted to get your clarification on two points Intel mentioned recently (maybe I misunderstood). They said a 5% price increase, but does that apply only to the new 13th gen or also affect the 12th? I thought the previous generation would see a discount, and I saw a listing around 12,700k CAD for about 37,200 USD. It seems like a decent deal, but I'm curious if the price will stay the same or change. Thanks.

It appears Intel typically maintains stable CPU prices, though there were minor reductions during the 10th Gen era. It’s unclear whether price changes are due to Intel itself or retailers trying to clear inventory, placing uncertainty in this area. Personally, I’m skeptical about any upcoming drops for Intel. However, the 5800X3D looks promising for gaming performance, potentially matching or exceeding benchmarks against high-end chips like the i9-12900K—definitely worth checking out!

They frequently lower costs right after the release of the latest model to remove excess stock, then as time passes, availability for previous components diminishes and prices surge—particularly for high-end items from that line.

The price reductions are around $40 at most, which isn't a big deal.

Varies by situation, but generally the 10th generation was quite affordable over the past year. You could find a 10400F for around $120 and there were some solid offers from MC. The 11700K was available for about $199, and the i3-10101/10105F remained reasonably cheap. Amazon often has good Intel deals during events like BF or Prime Day. I once bought a 9900k for my wife for roughly $250, but it’s now much more expensive at $560. If you’re close to an MC, they’ve had some intense discounts on Intel parts in the past. At one point, i7-10700k/11700k was around $199 while a Ryzen chip cost over $250. Now it seems 12th gen still commands a premium even at MC, though you can still find competitive options like the 5900X or 12600k for about $250.

Sadly, no MC near me... Will wait for prime day but so far, no good deals beside a 30$ cad off (which is not that bad).
