i5-6600K overclocking problems
Hello everyone,
My setup includes:
Intel i5-6600K
Corsair H110i GT 280mm CPU cooler
Gigabyte Z170X Gaming 5
Kingston DDR4 2400MHz 8GB x2
Asus GTX1070 Strix OC
I've encountered several overclocking issues with my i5-6600K.
First, I can't overclock via the BIOS—it doesn’t allow any adjustments. The only options are to set OC presets, but they cause crashes and force me to use a USB drive for Windows to fix the booting loop.
Second, I can overclock using Gigabyte software inside Windows; up to 4.6GHz works without problems. Testing with Aida64, Prime95, Cinebench, and OCCT shows stability, though a BSOD appears after restarting.
Third, using MB software in Windows to select OC mode (4.1Ghz) gives stable performance even after rebooting.
I’m looking for guidance on either:
- Overclocking from the BIOS for consistent Windows booting, or
- Finding a method to maximize CPU performance without constant BSODs.
I own a high-quality cooler at a reasonable price, and I’m willing to risk the CPU if it helps.
I’ve updated the BIOS to version F21.
