Hi everyone, I’m planning to swap my CPU for a 6600k and am eager to get some tips on making it work well. My goal is around 4.5 GHz, which suits gaming. Right now I have an ATX case without a front fan (a cooler whose name I don’t remember), a PNY GTX 970 blower fan, and an EVGA G2 550W power supply.

I need a motherboard for overclocking and a CPU cooler to keep it cool, all while staying under 250€ (prices in Italy). That’s a tight budget, but I really appreciate it if you can help. I want something reliable that will last 7-8 years, not fancy stuff. Thanks!

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 was the model I previously owned, dominating the sub-$40 segment until the H7 arrived.

This all-round choice works well regardless of cost:
ASUS Z170-A Motherboard
Cryorig H7 CPU cooler

I own an i5 6600k processor running at 4.7ghz, with minimal adjustments, using the ASRock Z170 Extreme6+ and Cryorig H7. The Extreme6+ also provides USB3.1 type a and Type c ports that fit into a 5.25 slot.

I'm unable to locate the h7 in Italy. Other available options are more costly if needed.

The Cooler Master Hyper 212 is an outstanding cooler, choose it if you don’t want the H7.
For the motherboard, the Extreme Z170 is a great option, offering comprehensive connectivity and plenty of OC settings.

Using the Gigabyte Z170MX Gaming 5 with a Noctua U12S at 4.6 Ghz keeps temperatures between 50-55 degrees Celsius even under heavy use.
