I recently assembled my initial gaming PC using mostly new components except for the CPU, which was an older model from my brother’s business machine. Overall, I achieve reasonable performance, but in titles like R6 Siege, frame rates fluctuate significantly—typically around 80-120 FPS, dropping to 50 during dips—and the CPU stays near full load constantly. I’m considering swapping it for an i7 4770K, preferring LGA1155 for now while planning a future upgrade to an AMD system and CPU. Do you have any advice on suitable options or thoughts on whether the 4770K remains a strong choice?

Haswell runs on LGA1150, not 1155. The top chip to fit your board would be an i7-3770(K). It would definitely outperform your current i5, and if you spot a good price, it’s worth considering.

Thank you! You're right about the temperature—3770K is quite high. I'll keep an eye out for affordable options beyond eBay. Any other suggestions for finding it?

Use an H77 board and skip the K SKU CPUs because they can't be overclocked. The i7-2600 works well if you can get it for a much lower price than the 3770.

For an H77 board, overclocking isn't supported, so consider using a non-K 3770 or a 2600, which offers a similar performance at a lower cost.

For that socket, even a 2600k is a good choice. Technically a generation older, but was a great overclocker, and the sockets are compatible. LE: Oh, lol, forGot it is an H chipset board. You might even have a chance to get a similar performing sandy/ivy bridge xeon e3 for cheaper than the consumer counterparts. Just check the motherboard's cpu compatibility list. https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H77 Pro4-M/index.asp#CPU Careful as some of those xeons have no igpu (the ones branded with a red * ). So you will NEED a separate gpu, like the new intel core F branded cpus or non-APU ryzens do.

The cost for 3770k is around $100, excluding any repairs, so it doesn't seem worth the price.
