I5 2500K Overclock
Hello, I recently performed an overclock on my i5 2500k. I started with 4.5ghz at 1.35v but it crashed after about 20 minutes of running prime95 with large FFT. I reduced the frequency to 4.4ghz at 1.35v and ran it for 6 hours without any errors. I feel stable since I haven’t experienced crashes while playing games or browsing. My motherboard is an ASUS P8P67, I have 8 gigabytes of Crucial Ballistix SPORT memory and a 750w Corsair PSU. Am I suitable for 4.4? My idle temps are around 40°C and about 70°C during full load.
You're fine. If you need 4.5Ghz or higher, you'll need to increase the voltage, which could raise your temperatures. To boost frequency, add more voltage and consider a new cooler for the CPU or updating the thermal paste.
I have a 2500K at 4.5Ghz with 1.4vcore and maintain low temps. The highest temperature recorded with Prime95 is 68ºC, and gaming temps reach 63ºC. I keep things cool using a Noctua NH-D15.
What GPU do you have?
