Compiling tends to use more cache than threads. Generally, 105 minutes on an Intel i5 and 125 minutes on an AMD x3d are typical. For personal preference, I’d choose AMD due to the Intel CPU drawing about 100 watts more under load, even though it’s quicker; in games it keeps running high power, and in production it performs differently.
I focus on big application builds using VB.NET and C#, not game development. I’ve begun working on a full real-time operating system. Besides that, I handle other projects occasionally, but not as deeply. My machine is a Ryzen 5 2600, and compiling parts takes more than 20 minutes.
It has worked really well for me, I believe I've used it for about six years now.
