I've noticed my recent performance has dropped, and I'm wondering if it's due to thermal throttling from the stock cooler. After upgrading to a 3090 and planning a CPU upgrade, I ran Cinebench and saw temperatures climb as high as 100°C. My idle temps are now around 45-50°C, which seems excessive for a 12400. I'm unsure if the cooler will handle it or if a repaste is enough. Previously, my case was hot to the touch during "The Last of Us," so I'm holding off on intense games until this is fixed. For now, should I invest in a new cooler or consider a repaste? Also, switching to Ryzen for UE5 feels like a big change compared to sticking with Intel's i7-13700K?
It seems a bit excessive, but I tested the 12400 on stock cooler for some time before switching to an aftermarket unit. When I ran a 10-minute multicore Cinebench test with the stock cooler, it only reached 88°C. It looks like the cooler might not have been installed correctly—perhaps pressure wasn't even or the case ventilation was poor.
I've observed many of these problems appearing after installing my 3090, increasing heat output by roughly 20°C compared to the 3060. The 3060 used a triple fan with peak loads between 50-60, whereas the 3090 stays fully loaded around 82 during tough games. This makes me wonder if airflow is the issue.
I've been considering jumping in and getting a fresh case. I went for a budget option during my first build, but I'm only thinking about an AIO if I'm sure I'll stick with Intel. The debate on that is still going on.
