I once owned an i3 2120 and was attempting a clean. I noticed black residue on the CPU and cooler, assuming it was dust. After cleaning, I used that processor for three years at around 102°C without any issues to the motherboard or CPU, and performance remained stable. Recently, I sold it for $5. My new CPUs are 7700K and 2600K. Can I push them to that level of performance, or was it just a fortunate circumstance?

The CPU functions at that heat level, though results might differ from expectations. It includes a thermal throttle to avoid damage, which causes clock speeds to decrease. During overclocking, aim for a balance where the CPU stays below thermal limits in extreme cases.
