It hasn't been updated in development for eight years, just eight years since the final installment in the series. Around three years ago, they were working on securing a license from Funcom and securing funding. (Funcom apparently didn't plan to create more single-player titles, though I think they granted Red Thread the rights at no cost, which was great. The original developers and contributors from earlier games are now part of Red Thread Games.)
I revised the content afterward. Prior to that, the sole reference to the title was a short passage (derp) Aren't we all
For a listener who hasn't played the first two but is curious about the series, it would be wise to start with the classics.
It seems fascinating! I need to see it. Fortunately, I don’t mind the visuals either.
It varies a lot depending on how well you adapt to older games. The first title is highly regarded (90+/100), while the second isn't quite as strong. It's not terrible, just not a classic in the same way. "The Longest Journey" fits the name but is quite lengthy. I suggest adventure fans who aren’t bothered by dated aesthetics try "Dreamfall Chapters"—it feels more current and smoother to start. If you enjoy diving into background details, that’s a good fit. To blend the best, watch the first part of the first two on YouTube, then jump into the new one.
