Ed, occasionally NVI. Apologies, I can't cast a vote for either since you didn't list them. I also rely heavily on Emacs, though it features a graphical interface.

I handle numerous clients using various types of *nix for their servers. What remains constant across Linux, AIX, BSD, etc., is VI.

If you have Vim installed, use Vim. If not, choose Vi since it's the default on most Linux systems.

I work with Vim, just because I understand the commands and Nano, but it struggled with modifier-based shortcuts—it really messes with my focus because CTRL+X doesn’t mean “close file” for me, no matter how hard I try.
