Hi, I've swapped my graphics card from a GTX 1070 TI to a new Radeon RX 6800 XT (12GB) and now my games aren't running well. For instance, when I play Rust, I'm only getting about 75 frames per second. I also feel like the game's frame rate drops really fast in between shots, which makes it laggy and freeze up when I try to shoot something. My other settings are an Intel Core i7-8086K processor with a Kraken X63 cooler, 16GB of RAM running at 2133MHz, and an MSI MPG A850GF power supply rated for 850 watts. I'm using a Rostrix Z370-H motherboard too. Is there anything else I can try to make Rust run smoother?
Did you run a fresh installation of Nvidia drivers with DDU when you swapped out your graphics card? Even though both cards used similar or identical Nvidia drivers, we often find registry or other configuration problems when switching to new hardware even if the brand is the same and that cleaning up with DDU usually fixes these issues. Also, do you have the latest stable motherboard BIOS installed? What BIOS version are you currently running? Did you change any other hardware recently and was the last clean Windows install done back then?
Hi there! Yes, I had a fresh start with a clean installation. I tried updating my BIOS now, and rust feels much better. Here is what's running right now: American Megatrends Inc. version 2203, dated 7.10.2019. Before that upgrade, I changed my power supply, motherboard, RAM, CPU, and cooler. That whole job happened back in late 2020.
So I am wondering if you just transferred an old operating system, or if you wiped your computer and started Windows again after swapping out the motherboard. It's best practice to completely reinstall the operating system whenever you switch hardware, like a new platform.
