I upgraded my GPU but still face frequent game crashes.
I was using an RX580 during a supply shortage and couldn't work on anything else. Recently I upgraded to an RTX 3080 and added three new fans. I plan to play a game for about twenty minutes before it crashes. After trying a CMOS reset and a DDU for both AMD and AMD drivers, nothing resolved the issue. I attempted an AMD driver clean and then switched to all AMD and Nvidia drivers, but the problem persisted. Someone suggested my PSU might be too weak, though I have an 850W unit which should suffice—especially since I kept power draw below 370W with HW monitor open. I suspect power spikes could be the cause, as 30 series cards are involved, but the PSU was purchased after those cards were released, so it shouldn't be an issue. I checked reviews and saw a user running the same model with a 3090 without problems. Below is my full spec sheet of components likely to draw power; please let me know if you have any further advice on why the games crash this way. Thanks in advance. I’m now double-checking game files and looking for error messages. Edited April 1, 2022 by RelyingEarth87
I was attempting Cyberpunk to evaluate the Ray Tracing features since it's new to me and it displayed a standard error message. While playing FIFA 22 I didn't see any similar issue. I looked in Event Viewer but wasn't sure if any logs related to the crashes, possibly due to my limited experience interpreting them.
Through extensive testing, it appears my XMP profile was experiencing instability on my system. I intend to upgrade the BIOS to resolve this and may attempt manual timing adjustments to verify voltage levels. Since the frequency is 3600MHz, I’m a bit surprised and feeling a touch of frustration, but things should work out now.
That's intriguing, though my understanding is that intel doesn't require high RAM speeds. Your CPU is officially rated for 2933MHz, so it seems like a misunderstanding on your part when you mention "only" 3600. I'm not saying 3600 won't work, but its definitely not guaranteed and really depends on the specific hardware.
I checked the BIOS settings after the update and noticed the crash might stem from overly tight auto XMP timings. My RAM is labeled for 16-19-19-39, yet it attempted to use 15-16-16-36. It could also be that the middle numbers were 18s, which seems to have been the main problem.
