you have a ryan zen 5 5600, asrock b550 steel legend, and an rx 6800xt. one day your pc stopped working. when you checked it, they said the power supply was faulty and replaced it under warranty. after swapping the psu and restarting, smoke appeared near the pcie slot where the gpu was located. i turned it off and tried to boot without the gpu—everything functioned normally, fans spun, and lights lit up. when i connected the gpu back in, power flowed through the motherboard, and fans activated briefly before stopping. the led lights stayed on. when i plugged in the power cables for the gpu and turned it on, some leds near the pcie slot kept blinking. what’s going on? is your gpu or the motherboard dead?
Did you connect the GPU to a different port for testing? If not, it’s likely damaged. If it seems okay (no burnt pins, traces, parts, or black marks on the board), try switching it to another slot and see if it functions. It probably got destroyed together with the port, but it might have made it through. Also check the motherboard near the PCIe connector for any scorched areas and inspect the slot itself for smoke damage.
i tried the second slot and the led lights near the PCIe slot started blinking as well as the asrock logo. so i unplugged it from the slot while power cables still connected to the GPU turned it on same thing happened ( led lights near PCIe slot blinking). so i unplugged all power cables except the 24pin and the cpu power cable turned it on and the same thing. i cant seem to find any traces of anything burnt on the GPU side (i dont think the GPU is dead yet (atleast i hope so)). and from what i have searched up, it seemed to be a power problem? but this is a brand new thermaltake GF 850W gold PSU
The old PSU is from a specific brand and model, while the new one shares similarities but differs slightly. The GPU is placed in the second PCIe x16 slot likely due to compatibility or layout considerations in newer systems.
Thermaltakw GF 850W gold is the model you’re using. Both power supplies are identical since I received the second one under warranty, which was deemed faulty after a full inspection. The second slot was tested by plugging it in to check functionality, as the first one didn’t work. I’ve been operating from the first slot initially and considered trying the second one. The CMOS battery removal also hasn’t been done yet. Specs include Ryzen 5 5600, ASRock B550M, Steel Legend RX 6800XT, OC, and Thermaltake GF 850W gold.
No visible indicators for the code on the motherboard. There were signs of activity in the boost, VGA, DRAM, and CPU LEDs. Once I connected the GPU to the second PCIe slot, the motherboard LED started blinking as shown in the video. After that, the VGA, DRAM, CPU, and boost LEDs stopped working. It’s unclear how to explain the code now.
