I shared my friend's unused 8GB Sodimm stick (2666MHz) on his laptop, which had 4GB of soldered 3200MHz RAM. Now the screen is black but the power button still works. I'm unsure about the exact model he uses. Could the difference in RAM speeds be the reason?

Maybe the stick itself. It should work if you take out the 8GB stick.

Alright, then he should opt for a 3200mhz stick, just grab a JEDEC 3200mhz one and I'll be fine.
