I searched for a more recent CPU for the systems I’m assembling and spotted an AM2+ Phenom Tri-core from 2006 priced at £18. I assumed it was a fair offer, so I purchased it. On the IHS it lists as Phenom, which didn’t raise any red flags until I tried running it. The BIOS indicated an “AMD Unknown model,” but I assumed it needed updating. After booting into Windows 7, using CPU-Z revealed my processor was actually an AMD Opteron 1387. Perfect! If anyone has insights on this chip, please let me know—I’m completely confused.
Never heard of it before but i found something that might explain a bit more. The AMD Phenom family is a 64-bit microprocessor family from AMD , based on the K10 microarchitecture . It includes the Phenom II X6 hex-core series, Phenom X4 and Phenom II X4 quad-core series, Phenom X3 and Phenom II X3 tri-core series, and Phenom II X2 dual-core series. Other related processors based on the K10 microarchitecture include the Athlon X2 "Kuma" processors, Athlon II processors, and various Opteron, Sempron, and Turion series. The first Phenoms were released in November 2007. An improved second generation was released in December 2008, named Phenom II . Processors with an "e" following the model number (e.g., 910e) are low-power models, typically 45 W for Athlons, 65 W for Phenoms. Processors with a "u" following the model number (e.g., 270u) are ultra-low-power models, typically 20 W for single core chips or 25 W for dual core chips.
The Opteron 1387 appears to feature a triple-core processor. Comparing it to the Phenom is similar to comparing an i7 to an Xeon from Intel. One is designed for desktop use, the other for workstation servers. It's conceivable these chips share the same chip inside, but I'd be cautious about keeping them due to the order not being confirmed.
Try using an older revision of cpu-z. It's obviously reading the cpu wrong. Nobody relidded that chip. They are soldered. Cpuz must just be reading wrong. This is a Toliman core.
