I think Easy Anti Cheat might be making my M.2 NVMe drive vanish during game loading.
Hello everyone. It's difficult to decide whether to share this on Storage or Software, but here it is. I'm trying to connect with others who might have faced the same annoying problem. It's also affecting a friend of mine.
The issue occurs when loading a game that uses Easy Anti Cheat, such as Apex or Hunt Showdown. The game becomes unresponsive, usually on the load screen or shortly after starting the interface. I have to close the game and then, if I open the Finder, the NvME drive containing the games either disappears from Windows or the files become unreachable. I need to restart to access the drive again.
I've tried several solutions:
- Updated BIOS
- Installed a new NVME drive (switched from Gen 3 to Gen 4)
- Used a different game that doesn't require EAC
- Updated the drive firmware
- Ran a drive test in BIOS, which showed no issues
The maximum temperature on the drive is around 47°C. If anyone has encountered this and found a fix, please share it. I suspect the problem might be related to EAC rather than hardware failure. This issue also appears with a different motherboard and Samsung drive instead of a WD Drive.
Here is my user bench.
Have you verified the condition of the old drive?

I don't see anyone else with a similar issue. It's hard to trust a drive that suddenly disappears as your boot drive.
