I followed a friend's advice and set up Debian, but I have no idea what I'm doing. I attempted to install some apps, but I keep seeing a warning about the updater not loading. After downloading several files, they appear damaged. I really wish someone could assist me in fixing this issue.

Vanilla Debian isn't typically the top choice for beginners, though it's not the worst either. I have a few questions first. How did you attempt to install the applications—through the software center or directly in the terminal? Which desktop environment are you using, roughly? Did you pick Gnome by default, or did you have the option to choose differently during installation? What software are you aiming to install? Which files did you try to download? Having screenshots of any errors would be really useful if you're willing to share.

They're trying to set up the software using the package manager provided by the Linux distribution. For instance, apt-get install <package-name>. Some systems also offer a visual package manager that's easier to use. Usually, you don't download and install from external sources.

software center lacks telegram, so I saved it from the telegram website. When I attempted installation, a pop-up appeared suggesting GDEBI, but it didn’t work. I tried opening it from there now, and honestly, it felt like installing something from a potato. Still, thank you for your help!

From my perspective, Telegram should work on Debian 11 (Bullseye). Here’s the link: https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/telegram-desktop. As mentioned, please clarify your download details or provide screenshots for better assistance. Let me know which package you got, how you attempted installation, and the exact error you received. If you’re using a different source, ensure you’re getting the Debian version (e.g., a .deb file) and use "sudo dpkg -i example.dep" to install.

Telegram is typically delivered as a Tarball, which can be challenging to configure. A simpler method would be to install Flatpak and use it for downloading and running Telegram along with other apps. You can follow the Flatpak and Flathub setup instructions, and Telegram should be installed easily.

Ensure Telegram is installed natively first, refer to the package link. If needed, install it via terminal for Flatpak compatibility.

Setting up the software took me a long time—three whole days to get my Canon MF4770 running properly.
