Explore Classic Start. You can restore the Windows 7 start menu, which is great. Besides that, I'm using Win 10 Pro version 1609 with updates turned off, the Windows store disabled, and Cortana removed as much as possible. So far it hasn't been too bad.

Sure, you're just a couple of updates away. Windows 10 feels more comfortable over time, though it can be frustrating sometimes. It's a bit like dealing with persistent jock itch—still annoying but manageable. You can still access Cortana through policies and the registry.

Apply this update on Windows 7 or 8 to eliminate the "unsupported hardware" warning and restore normal Windows Update functionality across all processors. Another solid alternative for a customized Start Menu is startisback.

I acknowledge your concerns but moving forward the best path is overcoming this issue. Relying on outdated operating systems poses risks. At the moment Linux isn’t a complete substitute for Windows, though Microsoft must recognize that professionals don’t require Cortana, candy crush soda, Xbox or all the built-in features. I’m not sure if a tailored version would work, but creating minimal installation images for experts makes sense. You’re paying for an OS that comes with other proprietary programs, essentially acting as an advertisement. It feels like the old OEM approach—Windows 10 Education is progress, but you still need a proper license. Luckily I had one, but others must remove unnecessary components manually. In my case I stick to Windows 10 Education plus some group policy tweaks for updates so I only check when it’s safe. Edited November 20, 2018 by Guest

Finally someone who gets me. There is Windows 10 Enterprise LTSB that recently become LTSC. Honestly, that is the best Win10 version out there. But MS only *officially* sell it through VL for Companies/Organizations.

Uncle Billy is really bad, I don’t feel good about him. Macs are terrible, so we’re stuck in neither case. LOL

I find it hard to grasp why so many dislike version 10. I really enjoyed Windows 7, tried Windows 8 and liked it, then went for 10 and loved it. It’s tough for me to see the problems people face with 10 since I haven’t encountered any issues there yet. I can’t say the same about 7 and 8, unfortunately.

Many folks dislike clutter and intrusive ads on their devices. Each time I set up Windows 10, I end up deleting a lot of unnecessary software. Some individuals prioritize their privacy more than you might think. The newest version has also caused numerous issues. While you can enjoy Windows 10, it shouldn’t be hard to understand why others face difficulties with it.

I haven’t faced any privacy concerns or encountered bugs. Is there anything incorrect with what I’m experiencing? It seems like a minor micro stutter appears occasionally on this Intel machine, unlike my AMD 8350. I attribute it to the hardware, though I’m not sure.

Windows 10 keeps track of a lot of details about your actions. Not everyone experiences these issues, and you've had better luck than most. For instance, the October patch permanently removed user files for some individuals. My license was deactivated, which is a major loss of control. People dislike when software forces updates without their permission. Many were against Windows 10 from the start, yet still faced unwanted changes imposed by Microsoft.
