This setup is suitable for playing Fortnite, though performance without VSync may still be affected. If you want smoother gameplay, consider adjusting your settings or using a different display mode.

What resolution and configurations are you using for Fortnite?
Is your PC's power plan configured for high performance (or adjust it if needed)?
And could the game stutter?

Probably a monitor problem—could you share your resolution and refresh rate? Also, what frame rate do you achieve when v-sync is enabled?

the monitor's refresh rate is 75hz. without vsync it drops from about 120 to 70 after switching from the bus. normally it stays around 100 when not using vsync.

It's probably due to the mismatch between the frame rate and the monitor's refresh rate, leading to tearing and stuttering. This happens because the monitor must constantly match the displayed FPS. To prevent this, you should enable v-sync or use a monitor with a higher refresh rate.
