Similar to how it works here in Germany, we enjoy vast data access—up to 500 Megabits per second and 50 Megabits per second at a cost of around 40€ (about 48$). How do people manage that?

It's not the same as having many choices everywhere. Most homes only offer a single reliable ISP provider, perhaps just two. Sure, there are alternatives, but you're unlikely to choose DSL when another ISP has fiber installed at your location.

Internet services from companies across North America are generally poor. Pricing is often coordinated, and in many rural spots there’s just one provider available.

It seems the issue isn't that big. You're getting a strong signal (ping) over DSL, but your speeds are still low—500 Mbps up and only 50 Mbps down.

500mb up? that's odd it should be in reverse. I paid for 100mbps fibre and got 250-500mbps almost everyday, unmetered.

Are you interested in Starlink? It does come with a big initial investment, but according to the recent video, it offers unlimited service!

They maintain agreements with cities that grant them exclusive rights, effectively turning them into monopolies in their regions. With Americans moving away from the poor TV service and opting for streaming, they’ve intensified their efforts to extract every possible charge from consumers. My Cox internet cost has risen from roughly $50 monthly to about $100–$120 over the last five years. The speeds have only increased slightly, from 300 Mbps to 500 Mbps during that time.

We choose Xfinity since WOW! isn't great and other providers are worse. Our plan is 100/10, but it feels like 140/13. Plus, we hit our ~1TB data limit in January when I uploaded all my YouTube videos in 4K instead of 1080p.
