I encountered an issue right away after opening it, but... could there be something hidden in Windows?

These are remnants from earlier Windows releases that Microsoft has kept around over time, occasionally appearing in newer versions like Windows 11. A comprehensive collection is available: https://github.com/Lentern/windows-11-inconsistencies There are also many icons from Windows 95, possibly even from Windows 3.1, lingering in the system today.

They clearly share your hard drive data with the NSA, and it seems like others accept this without issue.

Absolutely, and if it fails, you should insist on getting a backup to recover your system.
