I really don't understand what just occurred and I'm getting really worried.
I have a FX6300 and recently changed from a R9 270x to a GTX1070. Before upgrading the CPU, I considered overclocking and used AMD Overdrive, which had TurboBoost set to the default multiplier of 17x. When I increased it to 18.5x, the system crashed immediately after restarting. After searching online for an overclock guide, I tried adjusting the settings again but encountered issues. I also played BF1 for about half an hour, then powered off my PC and followed a tutorial link. However, upon restarting with the same settings, I noticed my desktop files were different—my search history showed entries from March 2019. This made me worried because I regularly back up my data. I’m concerned about losing everything if the system restores to an older backup. I also found out that my PC never displayed any self-restore messages during the crash, and it took nearly an hour of normal use before the strange "restore" event occurred. I’m unsure what happened and am confused about how to recover my files.
I should mention that my Windows 8 theme was still on when I upgraded, and I believe everything remained unchanged since March 2019. My other HDDs are working properly. I have an extra HDD with a backup of important files, but it’s only six months old. What should I do to recover my data?
How did you move your data to the new SSD? Could you begin your PC using only the newly installed SSD without much modification? I’m checking if the previous Windows installation is still present on one of the HDDs, allowing you to boot from that drive. It seems the migration process didn’t go as smoothly as expected, so you might need to clean up the disks first. For assistance, having detailed system information—such as CPU, motherboard, GPU, drives, case, power supply, and a list of connected HDDs and SSDs—would be very helpful. Good luck!
