Yes, the update added a way to see Win 8 apps in a windowed mode with an "X" button. The new start menu is still missing, but it's expected to be included in the next update.

It's expected to launch soon, similar to the feature of running apps on the desktop, as seen with browsers like Firefox.

The Start Menu isn't part of Update 1. I believe it will appear in future updates...

Users should be able to master the search feature instead of starting a new thread each time. This request has been made multiple times since the update was released.
